MEET THE FOUNDER
Floyd E. Johnson is a native of Hartford, Connecticut. Brother Floyd, (as he is so infamously called) wanted to use his experiences to help save the youth of Hartford. As a product of the juvenile and criminal justice system himself, Brother Floyd made the decision to change his life. A former gang member, Brother Floyd recalls the day he knew he had to make that change.
" I was tired of seeing young people out on the streets repeating the same mistakes I made. The youth are dying. I could have been one of them. But God saw it different."
Brother Floyd began seeing reality for what it was and was able to renew his mind, focus and strengthen his faith in God, Brother Floyd began the process of changing his life and made a commitment to be an example to those individuals he was soon about to help.
In 2008, Brother Floyd began developing the Tap Into Violence Youth Program after hearing about a young child being murdered. Brother Floyd recalls, "
"Young people were joining gangs at a rampant rate. Kids were being killed and parents were loosing their children to foolishness. That could have been me when I was gang banging, but God spared my life. I knew I had a responsibility to help those kids who were like me."
Parents of many troubled youth heard about Brother Floyd and what he was doing in the community and began asking him to assist them with helping to get their children out of gangs. Brother Floyd was successful at safely getting several young people out of some of the local street gangs. Lives were saved because of Brother Floyd.
Soon, local youth programs and juvenile centers learned about Brother Floyd and began inviting him to come to talk to residents and clients about gang life, acts of violent overall and the importance of having good decision making skills. Thus the birth of Tap Into Violence Youth Program.
Since 2008, Brother Floyd has using his voice to speak life and encouragement into the lives of the you of Hartford, Connecticut.. He uses his experiences to bring about alternative solutions on how to handle the issues they are dealing with. In 2013, Brother Floyd established Tap Into Violence Youth Program, LLC. "It is about the youth. They need a chance to live. They need a lot of what I didn't get. As long as I can, I will help our youth live a violent-free life."
Tap Into Violence Youth Program believes that it takes a village to raise a child. We believe that an idle mind is the devils playground. Too much time without anything constructive or positive to do will lead a person down the path of destruction. Tap Into Violence Youth Program not only do we want to address the issues directly, we want to make a commitment to do what others have not been able to and/or simply refuse to do, give our youth something to do.
Over the last year, the Tap Into Violence Youth Program has taken steps toward developing programming for the youth of Greater Hartford, Connecticut that is positive, productive and proactive.
